"12 Strong tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; under the leadership of a new captain, the team must work with an Afghan warlord to take down the Taliban." - IMDB
Saw this movie on a whim. I was very on the fence about seeing this, as at this point I’m getting a bit tired of war films and need a break. That said, I sort of have a man crush on Chris Hemsworth, and a supporting cast of Shannon, Pena, and Fitchner peaked my curiosity. Unfortunately all that doesn’t add up to a perfect film, but it does however, make a film that is at least palette able and something to out in the queue for a later day. The best parts of this film are Hemsworths interactions with Navid Negahban as the warlord General Dotsum. At the end of the day, it has little new to say regarding war, and comes off a little “ra ra ra” at a time when political discord nears the possibilities of a huge war returning
What got you to watch this movie (adverts, talent involved etc)?
The cast…purely sucked in by the cast.
What kept you watching the film?
I was at the theater, and to this day have never walked out on a film. But I didn’t feel like this at any point during the film.
Did any production elements (i.e. sound, costume, art direction, production design) stand out?
The cinematography was decent, the stunts and action sequences, although graphic, were well done.
Would you spend money to see this again? In a theatre/DVD/Streaming?
No. put it in our queue, save it for a day when you want to veg, but it shouldn’t take the place of some things that should be on there.
What emotional response did the film have on you? During…after?
None really. It didn’t really affect me too much. It really was just a war action flick with a couple things that have been said before. HOWEVER, its at least moderately well done and not shoved down your throat.
Do you think this film has a specific demographic appeal?
Mostly men, and those that are into war movies.
Was the language use in the film appropriate/authentic?
Yes. Never felt like I was taken out of the experience.
-Strong battle scene near the end
-Never really invested strongly in any character
-Same message we have heard before
-SAVE IT for a rainy day
-don't push out something you want to watch for this.
